Getting the bells down at Ickford, Buckinghamshire

Getting the bells down at Ickford, Buckinghamshire Tube. Duration : 1.62 Mins.

Sanky: William Taylor 1847 14 inches 1 c1599 George Appowell (probably) 2 1716 George Chandler 3 1623 Ellis Knight the first The tenor is 8½cwt (about 430kg) in A These are a nice three although we failed to quarter peal them because the second proved almost impossible to ring to changes. It turned out that the rope had been re routed to a different place in the ceiling by somebody who knew nothing about ringing... Thus the pulley block is 90 degrees out of place to where it should be meaning that at handstroke the rope was sawing into wood instead of on a pulley! This made the bell go badly but it was only after we rang that we discovered this amusing cockup. We must have been the first people to ring them full circle since the work was done to move the ringing chamber upstairs. The ropes were also ludicrously long!
